WSSRA HAS YOUR BACK!
Here's what we've done -

  • New Early Retirement Reduction Factor (ERRF) for Plans 2 & 3 with full benefits at age 62 with 30 years of service (reduced from age 65) and reduced penalties below age 62, ie. 95% pension at age 60 with 30 years of service. Effective July 2008 for PERS and September 2008 for TRS and SERS.
  • Final Gain-sharing distribution on January 1, 2008 for Plan 3 = $270.69 times years of service depositied in their defined contribution accounts.
  • Plan 3 members are now vested after five years of service, with at least one year of service after age 44.
Here's what we need to do
  • Removal of Plan 2 & 3 post-retirement restrictions placed on those who utilize the new ERRF.
  • Plans 2 & 3 full retirement at age 60 with 30 years of service.
  • Plan 2 access to PEBB medical plans upon separation from service, at age 55 with 20 years of service.
  • Plan 3 vesting after five years of service, without age restriction.

Frequently Asked Questions
about the Washington State School Retirees Association

1. Why should I have to spend money to belong to this group? ($60.00 per year)

You shouldn't. However, you have invested your resources and life's work into your pension system. Someone needs to be in Olympia checking on how decisions are being made about your money.

2. Can I Make a Difference?
If I meet with a legislator and represent 16,000 citizens I might be heard. If I represent 56,000, I will be far stronger. The number of actives and retirees in the Washington State Retirement System far exceeds this. Do your part. If you are not a member of a retiree organization, the people making decisions assume you like how things are done.
Your apathy serves the system.

3. I don't want to join a group and don't have time or interest in belonging to an organization.
The real mission of WSSRA is to look after pensions- your pension and mine. We all need each other to make this message loud and clear in Olympia where our future is determined. Joining WSSRA gives you a voice in your own future.

We are not asleep at the wheel. At least not any more!
